Session 4


We have developed the solar system session.

SESSION 4 “Solar system”

Initial activity

The teacher launches a question to the whole group: What do you know about the planets?”

The students have to answer the question in their computers (word) and once they answer it they have to send the document to the teacher´s email in order to check what they know about the topic.

Activity

The teacher shows a short video from youtube in which the solar system is explained. While the students are watching the video they must open a document in their computers where there are questions related to the video. They have to answer them while they watch the video. After it, the teacher checks who does the questions and they correct them aloud.




Final activity

In the blog there is a link related to the planets of the solar system. Students must open the link and they will have some time to play with those interactive exercises. Then the students, in groups of five,  have to solve the exercises in the whiteboard and teacher will notice which group has understood the concept. During this time, the other students will continue playing in their computers.

Session 3


We have finished the session in which we are going to explain the Milky Way.
SESSION 3 “Milky way”

Initial activity

The teacher, through a prezi presentation, shows a youtube video. After it the students have to talk about what they have seen in the video.

 Activity

The teacher, through the prezi presentation, explains what  the Milky Way is and what kinds of galaxies there are, with the support of photos. After it, students must look for other photos of galaxies and send them to the teacher´s email. Once they have done it, the teacher and students choose the most interesting and beautiful photos in order to print them and put them on the class´ wall.

Activity

The teacher, through the prezi presentation, shows a video song related to the Milky Way.

Session 2


Session  2:  STARS AND GALAXIES

-  Actividad inicial : To introduce the topic the teacher launches a question to catch the attention of students , for example:  What do you think about the figures that stars form?, which is the biggest star you know?. Then, students share their ideas and speak it loudly with the rest of the classmates and respecting turn to speak.The teacher uses a power point presentation for this sesion.

-  During the delevopment of the class: the teacher shows real photos about stars and constellations through the blog.





-  Final activity:  through the blog of the subject, students have to complete some activities of multiple choice  about stars and galaxies. To finish the activity, on the blog there is also a template with points to relate and form figures joining the dots and students have to do a brief explanation of the constellation formed.

Session 1


SESSION 1

General Introduction. The Universe

-Initial activity:

The teacher initiates the topic by asking a question: How do you think  the universe could be created? They let the children some time to express their opinion.

 


After, with the computer they create a folder with the name of the theme and the unit to get future files and keep them in an organized way.

-Development Activity: 

The teacher puts a National Geographic video to introduce the topic. After watching the video, the teacher writes on the digital board keywords that have came out in the video. (Some examples)-Universe –Planet –Star…

The child will have to select one of the words and find an image from their computer. Google images will be used to do it. After selecting the photo, they have to copy and pasted it into a Word document. After having the file ready, the child will save it to their folder unit "The Solar System."

Then, they need to upload the file to the teacher´s e-mail adding their name.



-Final activity:

The teacher from the digital board shows images and the students have to comment them loudly and vote among all their favorites. The teacher may ask them why they have chosen the image, how they see the color, light...

Methodology

 We have been thinking about which is the methodology that we are carrying out in order to develop that part in our didactic unit.

6. Methodology

a) Methodological orientations and strategies.

 In this didactic unit, a list of instructional methods are used, and when they all are combined, the students´ learning will be strengthened. The used methods are:

·         Direct teaching: This method will be used with the aim of basic skills. The teacher explains the contents and provides the required material. He/she offers students the necessary corrections and revisions in order to consolidate learning. When the teacher needs to introduce materials in a complex and organized way, this method will be used because it allows students to work with an enormous quantity of information in a short period of time.

·         Discovery learning: When students work in an individual way in order to discover basic skills, it helps them to work without the continuous supervision of the teacher. Students in an autonomous way create their own learning exploring new knowledge.

·         Cooperative learning: This method is used joining groups that mainly must be heterogeneous in order to collaborate with each other, share opinions and  support between them to consolidate their learning. This instructional method favours their academic performance and their implication in the tasks.

Stage objectives
 
- Develop habits of individual work and team effort and responsibility in the study as well as attitudes of self-confidence, critical sense, personal initiative, curiosity, interest and creativity in learning.
 
- Get in at least one foreign language the basic communicative competence that will enable them to express and understand simple messages and cope in everyday situations .

Justification

We have started to eleborate the justification of the didactic unit:


Justification
This didactic unit is carried out under the framework established by the Crown Decree of 7 December 2006, by which the minimum teaching of Primary Education is set. It is defined within Knowledge of natural, social and cultural environment. The unit chosen is "The Solar System". This unit goes to students of the second cycle of Primary Education, i.e.  children between nine and ten years (4º Primary Education). This unit will take two weeks, taking into account that this subject is taught five hours a week, so it will take ten hours to develop it.  The lesson to be treated is of special interest to the children since they possess certain previous knowledge, it is a vital subject, that they deal with it everyday through videogames, cartoons, etc.

These are the books that we have selected. We have found several contents in both books that are interested to integrate in our didactic unit, so we are going to combine the contents from both books

Searching resources

Today, we have selected some books from the library about the theme that we are going to develop, in order to compare how the different editorials work the solar system and select the one that we have found more interesting.
